They say great things come in small packages (I think….or I could be mixing up my idioms), but on their second EP, at only 12 minutes in length, Italian black metallers Kybalion have produced a dark, misery-stricken and accomplished affair that stands them in incredible stead for whatever may follow…
‘Make The World Bleed’ is a statement, a chillingly balanced deluge and an extraordinarily decent chunk of second wave black metal. Based on a novel by Friedrich Dürrenmatt, the four tracks show off everything that this Italian quartet are capable of.
Opener ‘Make The World Bleed’ bursts out with an impeccable percussive blasting display, guitars spread as wide as the River Po, and some truly addictive trem lines. There’s a hoarse and very fitting vocal display, and even a bit of spoken word. The highlight is the second track ‘Hollow’ as it introduces a little more groove and etymology, before the EP drifts into a couple of minutes of atmospherics. Closer ‘Angst’ does exactly what it says on the tin and hints at bands like Aversio Humanitatis.
If there ever was a time to say it would be interesting to see what these guys could do in a full album format, then that time is now. EPs can be a tricky affair but, here, Kybalion have used the short format to their potential and left an ever growing army of listeners eager for what comes next.
