Well, cut off my spout with a petrol driven saw…it must be at least a decade since I reviewed/talked about/proudly played (I can’t recall which) a record by Chainsaw Castration…and, now, 2 of them have turned up in a new brutal death metal project from Manchester called Disgracing.
Emptying a giant bucket of entrails and turds onto anyone who chooses to spend Friday 13th listening to 19 minutes of eye-gouging, throat-gripping and toenail-tearing filth, this is their entrance. And what a timely one. Opener ‘Self Inflicted Torment’ tosses the pleasantries through the abattoir door and gives us a couple of minutes (and another minute chopped in half) of rasping guitars, brutally speedy drumming and a vocal that sounds like its taken on the job of replacing a mountain with a canyon.
Add the sweeping riffing and squeals throughout ‘Hollowed Barren Shell’, the near-goregrind lobotomy that is ‘Incessant Masochism’, as well as probably my favourite track, the closer ‘Volatile Bludgeoning’… and you have a seriously decent, highly enjoyable and downright dirty album. Even the snare sound agrees…
Stick ’em on with Foetal Juice somewhere. I’ll go.
Best Paired With: A Tooth Abscess, Not Being Able to Defecate For Six Days and A Comedy Moustache.
Descension Into Despair by Disgracing is out now (Independent).
