Long sleeves, camo trousers and an incredible selection of beards across the board, coupled with a good use of colour mask layers and a bit of playing about with the offset….and you are presented with a band who you just KNOW are gonna deliver the shit! And shit they deliver, on their debut full-length, Texan brutal death collosus Horrific Visions enter the room.
Taking the expected horror theme, and adopting a similar approach in its use, and their song structures as, for example, Milan’s Fulci, this tightly extreme unit deliver 25 minutes of truly hammer-smash-facing glory.
If we are honest (and let’s face it none of us are biological professors), there isn’t much left after atrophy has done its thing….but if this is what’s left then halle-fucking-lujah! Gargantuan slabs of thumping death metal are overlaid with the constant bellows of vocalist Conrad Heinemeyer and this really impresses in tracks such as opener ‘Malnutrition’, ‘Crippled Under the Weight of a Hollow World’ and the absolute head-melter ‘Enlightenment Through Excruciating Torture’.
As the record howls its way out with what sounds like a dog eating a testicle, it’s clear that this is a statement of seriously decent intent….as long as those beards stay, I am certain that Horrific Visions have only really got started.
