Ingrained with the grime of the gritty streets of Sao Paulo, battling through a series of line up changes, and now literally flinging their sixth album upon the world, Brazil’s Nervosa need little introduction.
Intensity above all else – that’s the strapline here. This purely female outfit sound as vicious and vengeful as they always have, and deliver the brand of death/thrash with which they have become synonymous….however, particularly as a follow-up to 2023’s Jailbreak, this is a new brand of magnitude. Oh, and a lesson in how the internet might just have been a bit of a bad idea – given the rising percentage of people who are as thick as shit.
From opener ‘Impending Doom’, as well as the early appearance of one of the singles ‘Ghost Notes’, that familiar and barbaric, jaw-droppingly swift and downright meaty chug literally burrows through your ear canals in starts to eat your synovial fluid. ‘Beast of Burden’ does absolutely nothing to stop any of this morbid frenzy, ‘Hate’ only makes you hurt more and, by the time you get to the rhythmic death grooves of ‘Learn or Repeat’, you have given up all hope of ever walking again.
‘Slave Machine’ is not trying to reinvent the wheel but, by the floppy discs of Tim Berners-Lee, this is one hell of a 43 minutes. No let up, only more hammering….think you’re brave enough? Course you are. Dive in. It’s on the internet somewhere…
Best Paired With: Claw Hammers, Rivets and a Leather ball gown.
Slave Machine by Nervosa is out now on napalm Records.
